A Guide To Emergency Food And Supplies

We all know that there is no promise of tomorrow. Disasters could happen at any time.  Natural disasters like earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes could happen any time.  There is also the chance there could be another terrorist attack, a nuclear war, or even a zombie outbreak (if you believe in that kind of thing).  You can see that there are many dangers looming in the world today.  And if you are smart, you will try to be prepared for any possible emergency situation.

You will need a lot of supplies if you are going to prepare for an emergency.  Please allow me to take this time to discuss some of the most important supplies you'll want to have.

Food is the first thing to talk about.  You will want to have enough food stored for each person in your family to last a few days in case of emergency.  You don't want your food to go bad so make sure to store salt, beans, other canned goods, and bottled drinks. For more details about emergency supplies, follow the link.

The next thing to talk about is lighting.  If there is a natural disaster you may lose power and won't be able to just turn on a light switch and use electricity anymore.  You should always keep a lot of extra flashlights, candles, and batteries in your home, car, etc.  Having a power generator may be useful for "minor" natural disasters where you lose power but your house is still fine otherwise.

Now let's discuss a few assorted supplies you should keep on hand.  Thermal blankets, long burning candles, and a small tent will be perfect for situations where you are out in the cold and need to stay warm.  Transportation is always important but if there is a natural disaster you may not be able to go to a gas station, so make sure you have some gasoline stored somewhere nearby.  During disasters you may not be able to get medical attention, so you should make sure you have some supplies of your own readily available.  You will probably want to have a first aid kit with gauze, antibiotics, antiseptics, a cold compress, and any other medical supplies you can think of.

Good emergency preparedness kits will have all of these basic supplies.  If you are reading this then obviously the 2012 doomsday prophecy did not come to pass, but that doesn't mean a natural disaster could affect your city at another time.  Hopefully the situation will never arise when an emergency food and supplies kit will directly improve your chances of survival, but if a major disaster does happen it certainly won't hurt to have a survival kit tucked away somewhere.  Because of all the recent brouhaha involving the end of the world prophecy, there are a lot of stores and people selling survival kits so you can go buy one or just make your own kit using the supplies mentioned in this article.
